Introduction

ISBD for Manifestation (ISBDM) covers only the Manifestation entity in the IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM).

ISBDM provides stipulations for describing a single manifestation and relating it to other manifestations and to other LRM entities.

ISBDM has similar utility to the consolidated ISBD because the primary focus of the consolidated ISBD is the Manifestation entity, with minor coverage of the other LRM resource entities Work, Expression, and Item. Most of the information recorded in a consolidated ISBD description can be recorded in an ISBDM description, albeit in a different structure.

Stipulations for full descriptions of other LRM entities will be developed in due course.

ISBDM stipulations support two distinct applications of entity-based cataloguing:

  • linked open data applications
  • relational database applications
